First garment unit comes up at Nava Raipur textile park, promises 4,600 jobs

Raipur: Chhattisgarh’s drive to diversify its industrial base beyond mining has gained momentum with work beginning on the first garment manufacturing unit at the upcoming textile park in Nava Raipur, a project expected to create more than 4,600 jobs and position the state as a new destination for apparel manufacturing.A Tamil Nadu-based private company has started work on the Rs 235-crore facility after a groundbreaking ceremony on Thursday. The unit will make knitwear and children’s garments, with a major share of production targeted at export markets in Europe and the US.Chief minister Vishnu Deo Sai said the govt was focused on job creation through industrial expansion and would provide investors with the infrastructure needed to set up manufacturing units.

He said the textile park would play an important role in generating employment, especially for women and youth, while strengthening Chhattisgarh’s position in the textile and garment sector. The project is the first manufacturing investment to take shape at the 81-acre textile park being developed as an integrated hub for textile, garment and allied industries.Officials said the park is being equipped with internal roads, power supply, water, drainage, an effluent treatment plant, solid waste management facilities, a commercial complex and a common facility centre to attract large-scale manufacturing.

The state has also allotted land to two more firms, which are expected to invest nearly Rs 445 crore and generate more than 11,000 direct jobs. The project is part of the state’s industrial development policy 2024-30, which identifies textiles and ready-made garments as priority sectors, officials said. The policy offers employment-linked incentives to companies hiring local workers, including monthly assistance for women and male employees over five years.
