Fisherman on board mechanised boat drowns in the sea, CM announces solatium of ₹3 lakh

A 30-year-old fisherman of Kodikulam village in the district accidentally fell into the sea while fishing and drowned a few days ago. The fisherman identified as P. Manthiramurthy, along with three others, ventured into the sea in a mechanised boat on June 30 from the Kottaipattinam fishing harbour.

They had sailed about 12 nautical miles in the sea when Manthiramurthy accidentally fell into the sea and died. The body was brought to the shore by the other fishermen. An official press release said Chief Minister M.K. Stalin expressed his condolences to the family of the fisherman. He ordered that ₹3 lakh be provided as solatium to the bereaved family from the Chief Minister’s General Relief Fund.
