The Bidar Police have cracked five different cases and seized stolen vehicles, narcotics, property worth ₹15.55 lakh and cash with the arrest of nine accused.

Superintendent of Police Pradeep Gunti, addressing a press conference in Bidar on Friday, said that the police cracked these cases registered in Chitguppa, Basavakalyan and elsewhere in Kalaburagi district and recovered 13 motorcycles, in all, valued at ₹9.25 lakh.

Three men were arrested in connection with thefts reported from Sulepet, Narona, Ratkal and Kamalapur police limits, he said.

According to Mr. Gunti, Police Inspector Ashok Reddy and his team intercepted the three men moving suspiciously during night patrol recently. On interrogation, they confessed to stealing motorcycles from different areas using a wire cutter. All the accused are aged between 25 and 30.

In another case, the Bemalkhed Police arrested a man accused of cattle theft and seized two oxen worth ₹3.25 lakh along with a vehicle worth ₹3 lakh.

Then, Bidar Sub-Urban Police solved a burglary case reported in July, recovering gold jewellery worth ₹1.57 lakh and getting three suspects sent to judicial custody.

Mr. Gunti also revealed that the police have arrested five people in two narcotics cases.

In Mangarwadi Galli of Bidar, drugs worth ₹1.48 lakh were seized and two local men taken into custody.

“The accused were identified as Sudesh and his brother Vikas who are said to have been selling bottles of narcotic syrup and tablets without prescriptions. Both have multiple cases registered against them at the Bidar Market Police Station. They were targeting college students. Strict action will be taken against such elements, including externment from the district and proceedings under the Goonda Act,” he warned.

In yet another case, three members of the Irani gang were arrested in Irani Galli, Bidar, for peddling narcotics. They confessed to procuring the contraband from Hyderabad for sale in the district. Further investigation is under way to dismantle the network.

Check-posts

“Special steps are being taken ahead of Ganesh Chaturthi. Intelligence inputs have suggested that some Ganesh Mahamandals are planning to hire DJs from Hyderabad, Pune and Latur at a cost of ₹10 lakh-12 lakh. We will set up check-posts along district borders to ensure that such DJs are not brought into Bidar. During the festival, DJs will be permitted strictly as per Supreme Court guidelines. Steps are also being taken in coordination with the Pollution Control Board and the Forest Department to curb the sale of plaster of Paris (PoP) idols,” Mr. Gunti said.

Organised crime

Highlighting overall enforcement, the Superintendent of Police said that between July and August 21, the police registered 1,058 cases relating to organised crime, arresting 2,455 persons and seizing property worth ₹3.32 crore.

“Of these, 233 gambling cases led to the arrest of 1,417 people and the seizure of ₹20.47 lakh. In 355 matka cases, 467 accused were arrested and ₹6.37 lakh in cash recovered. In addition, 330 excise-related cases resulted in the arrest of 339 people and the seizure of illicit liquor worth ₹7.28 lakh,” Mr. Gunti said.
