In a horrific case of mob violence linked to superstition, five members of a single family were allegedly lynched and burned to death over witchcraft allegations in Purnia district of Bihar. The incident occurred in Tetgama village under the jurisdiction of Mufassil police station in Rajiganj panchayat.

The victims have been identified as Babulal Oraon, his wife Sita Devi, his mother Kato Masomat, his son Manjeet Oraon, and daughter-in-law Rani Devi. According to police, they were first beaten and then set ablaze by a mob of more than 250 villagers who accused them of practising witchcraft. Their bodies were subsequently hidden, and search operations are currently underway to recover the remains.

Senior police officials, including the Superintendent of Police (SP) and Additional SP, along with teams from multiple police stations, rushed to the scene following the gruesome incident. Forensic teams and a dog squad have also been deployed as part of the investigation.
