The Mangalhat police have arrested five persons in connection with the murder of Rushab Agarwal, also known as Sunny Agarwal, at Aramghar Colony, near Mangalhat. Three mobile phones and two-wheelers were seized from the accused.

The arrested have been identified as Munna Singh, 31, a real estate and finance businessman from Jumerath Baazar, Lower Dhoolpet; Laddu Singh, 30, a private employee from Takkerwadi; Maddur Pranaya Kumar, 30, an insurance agent with an agency in Nanakramguda, and resident of Banjari Darwaja, Tolichowki; Thippani Uday Kiran, 20, a car instructor residing at Janaki Nagar, and a native of Mahabubnagar and; Kushangal Om Prakash, 20, a labourer working at a kirana shop in Aditya Nagar, Tolichowki, currently staying in a hostel there.

Three others identified as Aminesh Singh alias Amresh, Kunal Singh and Mamu are absconding.

Police said Munna Singh, the prime accused, had developed local followers in and around Mangalhat. About five days before the murder, Laddu Singh introduced Rushab Agarwal to Munna Singh at his residence. During a discussion, Rushab allegedly stated that he had recently been released from Cherlapally jail and had stayed in a barrack with a member of a rival gang connected to Munna Singh’s forefathers. Suspecting that he was associated with the rival group, Munna Singh allegedly summoned him the following day through Laddu Singh.

Investigators said the victim was first confined in a shed near Munna Singh’s residence where he was assaulted by Munna Singh and the other accused to extract information. He was later shifted in an autorickshaw to a Ganesh idol making unit at Aramghar, where the remaining accused joined in questioning and assaulting him with blunt objects. Police said Rushab Agarwal sustained internal injuries and died at the spot. The body was later moved to another nearby location before the accused fled.

Based on a complaint lodged by the deceased’s mother, a case was registered under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and investigation was taken up.

During the investigation, police examined CCTV footage and identified the accused. On Friday at about 2 p.m., acting on credible information, the police apprehended the five accused and brought them to the police station. During questioning, they allegedly confessed to their involvement.

Munna Singh was previously involved in a case registered in 2005 at Mangalhat police station under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Telangana Money Lenders Act.
