Five persons were sentenced to seven years of rigorous imprisonment by the First Additional District and Sessions Judge S. Narayana in Jagtial on Monday for their involvement in cultivation, supply and sale of ganja. The court also imposed a fine of ₹10,000 on them.
The accused Soyam Raju, a native of Adilabad district, Pala Raj Kumar, Bommidi Saichand, Bala Naresh, and Koluguri Sai Srujan, all from Jagtial district, were found guilty under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
According to the prosecution, the five accused were arrested after being caught with 1.25 kilograms of dry ganja by a police patrol team at Nookapalli on December 23, 2022.
The subsequent investigation revealed that the main accused Soyam Raju used to cultivate ganja in his cotton field and supplied it consumers along with the co-accused, who themselves were ‘regular consumers’ of ganja.
