India's airport regulator has approved higher passenger and aircraft charges for Noida International Airport than Delhi's IGI Airport. The tariff sets up costlier travel from the new hub even as lower fuel tax may still attract airlines.

The Airports Economic Regulatory Authority has approved a pricing structure that will make both departures and arrivals at Noida International Airport more expensive for passengers than at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport. Domestic travellers have to pay Rs 490 on departures and Rs 210 on arrivals as user development fees from June 15, 2026 to March 31, 2027.

By comparison, Delhi’s IGI Airport currently charges domestic passengers Rs 129 for departures and Rs 56 for arrivals.

International passengers flying from Noida airport will pay Rs 980 as UDF for departures and Rs 420 for arrivals during the same tariff period.

The charges are lower than what the airport operator had originally proposed, but they still place Noida among the costliest airports for domestic passenger fees in the country.

Airlines collect the UDF directly from passengers as part of airfare and transfer it to airport operators. The regulator has also approved future fee increases at Noida airport beginning April 1, 2027.

Domestic passengers flying out of Noida airport will initially pay Rs 541 in user development fees from April 2027, with the amount set to rise gradually to Rs 693 by FY31. Arrival charges for domestic travellers are also expected to increase over the same period, reaching Rs 297.

LANDING AND PARKING CHARGES ALSO HIGHER

Noida airport’s aircraft handling charges are also higher than those at Delhi’s IGI Airport, despite the project being pitched as an alternative aviation hub for the National Capital Region. Landing charges at Noida airport have been fixed at Rs 725 per metric tonne for domestic flights and Rs 1,088 per metric tonne for international operations.

At IGI Airport, landing charges for domestic wide-body aircraft stand at Rs 564 per metric tonne, while international wide-body operations are charged Rs 785 per metric tonne. For narrow-body aircraft, IGI charges Rs 347 per metric tonne for domestic flights and Rs 570 for international services.

Parking rules also differ sharply between the two airports.

At Noida airport, aircraft parking will remain free for the first two hours. After that, operators will pay Rs 25 per metric tonne per hour, which doubles to Rs 50 after four hours. Delhi’s IGI Airport currently charges Rs 18 per metric tonne per hour for remote stands and Rs 36 for contact stands.

Even so, airlines could still find Noida financially attractive because the UP government levies just 1 percent VAT on aviation turbine fuel (ATF), far lower than the 25 percent charged by the Delhi government.

AIRPORT SET FOR JUNE LAUNCH

Built at an estimated cost of Rs 11,200 crore, the first phase of Noida International Airport is expected to handle 12 million passengers annually. The airport, owned by Zurich Airport International AG, is scheduled to begin commercial operations on June 15.

IndiGo and Akasa Air are expected to be among the first carriers to launch services from the airport. The Delhi government currently imposes 25 percent VAT on aviation turbine fuel (ATF), while Uttar Pradesh levies just 1 percent.
