Font Calling Dibs? Barca Presidential Candidate 'Convinced Of Priority Position' If Haaland Opts For Switch

Haaland is contracted to City until 2024 and the club have brushed off talks of a serious offer on the table, but Font believes that the Blaugrana be the best destination for him.

Barcelona FC presidential candidate Victor Font believes that the Catalan club stand to be the first option for Manchester City superstar Erling Haaland if he opts to look for pastures anew.

The Norwegian is contracted to the Premier League side until 2024 and the club have brushed off talks of a serious offer on the table, but Font believes that the Blaugrana could prove to be the best home for the lanky striker.

“Haaland is one of the best strikers in the world. We are convinced we will have priority to sign him if he wishes to take on a new challenge."

Haaland penned a long-term contract with the English giants last year, but Fonte opined that fulfilling the complete extent of the contract isn’t a likely entail these days.

“I am convinced these long contracts are not possible to be fulfilled," the 53-year-old Font said.

“This is where we must be attentive to the situation of a player who loves Spain, who  made statements about how amazed he was about Camp Nou when he came here," he said.

“Madrid has also wanted it, so making a movement that protects us and gives us this option, I am convinced that it can happen."

Haaland’s agent, Rafaela Pimenta, however, expressed that the Norwegian striker is happy at Manchester City.

“We have a lot of respect and admiration for Barcelona but there’s been no contact whatsoever.

“Also the player renewed his contract a few months ago and he’s very happy at Manchester City. Everything is going so well for him. There is nothing to discuss," she added.
