A major fire broke out in the forest area near Thannimoodu in Palode on Thursday.
According to official sources, the blaze reportedly started around 4 p.m. and quickly spread across parts of the forest. Fire and Rescue Services personnel from the Palode fire station rushed to the scene and commenced intensive efforts to bring the fire under control. Later, additional units from Vithura and Nedumangad also joined the firefighting operations to contain the flames.
The fire has caused extensive damage and is reported to have originated in the Chekkonam forest region. Preliminary reports indicate that nearly 10 acres of forest land have been destroyed. Several trees including Anjili (Artocarpus hirsutus) have been burnt in the incident.
While the fire has been brought under control, strong winds in the area have intensified concerns that the flames could reignite and spread further. Under such circumstances, fire force personnel are are closely monitoring the situation. The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
