Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: An FIR has been registered against a corporator from Nanded and her husband, among others, for allegedly fraudulently obtaining a caste validity certificate.The move followed a complaint accusing them of falsely presenting an unrelated individual as the corporator’s real brother, forging signatures and submitting a false affidavit to the competent authority. The corporator in question could not be reached for comments.The case was registered on June 25 (Thursday evening) at the Itwara police station based on a complaint by a businessman. The FIR includes fraud, forgery, fabricating evidence, and joint criminal liability charges under sections 228, 336(2), 336(3), 340(2), 318(4), and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).Nanded SP Neelabh Rohan confirmed the FIR, saying the investigation will proceed with fairness and neutrality.According to the complainant, he has three sons belonging to the OBC category. While his son was pursuing medical education, the accused allegedly misused his identity and academic records to obtain the caste validity certificate, police said.The complainant said on June 21, he came across social media posts questioning the corporator’s caste validity certificate after election. Upon further inquiry, he discovered that his son’s 2019 caste validity application had allegedly been used, with the corporator falsely claiming him as her real brother. He further alleged that forged signatures were used on affidavits and other documents, fake genealogical records were created, and his son’s Aadhaar details and identity were misappropriated to secure the certificate.The FIR also stated that the complainant and his family have no relation whatsoever with the corporator or the other accused.
