In yet another incident, an 18-year-old NEET aspirant from Maharashtra’s Hingoli district allegedly died by suicide shortly after appearing for the NEET (UG) 2026 re-examination, leaving behind an emotional video message addressed to his mother.
The student, identified as Sushil Dhage, had appeared for the medical entrance examination held on June 21. The test was conducted again after the May 3 examination was cancelled over allegations of a question paper leak.
In a 33-second video recorded on his mobile phone, Sushil apologised to his mother and expressed regret for causing her pain.
“Mom, I am going to take my own life today. Mom, please don’t worry at all. In my next life, I will be born from your womb again and won’t cause you this kind of pain," he said with folded hands.
“Just forgive me, Mom. Stay with Sumedh, Mom. Take good care of yourself and don’t worry about me. I am in deep pain… I can’t do anything… I don’t understand anything anymore. Just forgive me, Mom," he said, breaking down during the recording.
According to reports, he sent the video to his family shortly before his death.
The NEET (UG) examination for admission to undergraduate medical courses was originally held on May 3. However, it was cancelled on May 12 following allegations of a paper leak.
The case was investigated by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which arrested the alleged mastermind behind the leak, identifying him as a Pune-based chemistry lecturer.
A fresh examination was subsequently conducted on June 21.
NEET is one of India’s largest entrance examinations, with millions of students competing every year for around one lakh undergraduate medical seats.
