Former Kochi Deputy Mayor Everest Chammany passes away

Everest Chammany, 91, former Deputy Mayor of the Kochi Corporation, passed away here on Friday (August 22, 2025).

He was elected three times each as municipal councillor and Corporation councillor. When late literary critic M.K. Sanoo was elected to the Kerala Assembly as an LDF-backed Independent in 1987, he was in the fray as a Congress rebel candidate.

He became the health standing committee chairperson when the district council was formed in 1990. He unsuccessfully contested as an LDF-backed Independent candidate in 1991.

The funeral will be held at the St. Mary’s Church cemetery at Kaloor on Saturday (August 23, 2025) at 3.30 p.m.
