Former Minister T. Jeevan Reddy has slammed the BJP-led Union government for keeping the BC Bills pending for the last four months. He demanded that the BJP prove its commitment to BCs by safeguarding the 42% reservations through inclusion in the Ninth Schedule of the Constitution.

Addressing a press conference at Gandhi Bhavan on Wednesday, Mr. Jeevan Reddy clarified that the 10% reservations proposed for Muslims in the BC Bills are based on their social backwardness, not on religion. He noted that reservations for socially backward Muslims are being implemented in States like Gujarat, Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh. “It is not right for the BJP to rake up the issue of reservations for Muslims in the BC quota,” he said.

The former Minister reiterated the Congress’s commitment to 42% reservation for weaker sections.
