Former Ministers and ex-MLAs of the AIADMK, who recently crossed over to the ruling TVK, called on party president and Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay at its headquarters in Panaiyur on the outskirts of Chennai.
Mr. Vijay, who arrived at the party headquarters on Saturday afternoon, met former AIADMK Ministers C. Vijayabaskar, M.R. Vijayabhaskar, Kadambur C. Raju, and Udumalai K. Radhakrishnan. He also met former AIADMK MLAs Maragatham Kumaravel, P. Sathyabama, and others who joined the TVK.
TVK sources said this was the first time the new inductees had met Mr. Vijay, as all of them joined the party in the presence of party general secretary and Minister for Rural Development and Water Resources N. Anand and other Ministers.
According to sources, the meeting lasted for about an hour, during which Mr. Vijay welcomed the new inductees and held discussions with them. Former Minister S.S. Vaigai Selvan, who resigned from the AIADMK recently, also joined the TVK on Saturday and called on the Chief Minister.
Earlier in the day, several former functionaries of the AIADMK joined the TVK in the presence of Mr. Anand at the party headquarters. Mr. Anand assured the new inductees that they would be given postings in the party after discussions with Mr. Vijay and urged them to work together with the existing TVK functionaries.
