A former West Bromwich Albion footballer has reportedly been arrested in Spain following a police drugs raid on the Costa del Sol. The 47-year-old British man was detained after officers allegedly found him carrying a bag of cannabis as he exited a shopping centre in Riviera del Sol.

Authorities later searched the premises he had just left and reportedly uncovered a significant quantity of illegal substances, raising concerns about organised drug activity in the area.The arrest took place last week, but the individual has not been officially named by police. Local reports claim the suspect spent most of his football career at West Brom. The incident has drawn attention due to the suspect’s sporting background and the scale of the alleged discovery.

It remains unclear whether the man has appeared before a judge or been released on bail, as investigations into the case continue.

Police seize large quantity of drugs in shopping centre operation

Police in Mijas launched the operation after noticing unusual activity around a premises inside the Las Terrazas Shopping Centre. Officers observed people frequently entering and leaving the location, which raised suspicion during routine surveillance. Eventually, they stopped one individual leaving the premises and found he was carrying a sealed packet of cannabis, which he reportedly said he had just purchased inside.

Following this, officers conducted a search of the premises and identified the person believed to be in charge. During the search, they allegedly discovered over one kilogram of cannabis. They also found a large quantity of hashish, and various materials used for packaging and distributing drugs. A big sum of cash was also seized during the raid.Authorities stated that the operation was part of ongoing efforts to maintain public safety in the area.

They explained that constant monitoring and a visible police presence help identify suspicious activities and allow officers to act quickly when necessary. Officials added that the seized items included multiple containers, packaging materials, digital scales, and prepared cannabis cigarettes ready for sale.Local officials praised the work of the police. They highlighted that proactive surveillance played a key role in the success of the operation. Reports also suggest that the premises involved may not have had the required licence to operate legally. The investigation remains ongoing.
