Aizawl: CM Lalduhoma on Tuesday laid the foundation stone for the Aizawl City Beautification Project under the Lammual Master Plan (Early Bird Project), marking a significant step toward reshaping the city’s core urban landscape.
The ceremony was held at Heritage Court on the former Assam Rifles land, which was officially handed over to the Mizoram govt in March 2025.The event was attended by UD & PA minister K Sapdanga, assembly speaker Lalbiakzama, and several ministers, legislators, and dignitaries. In his address, Lalduhoma said the project embodies a collective vision shaped by an advisory committee with inputs from diverse sections of society.
He stressed that after extensive consultations, the master plan has been finalised and will not undergo further changes. The CM highlighted that the initiative aims to transform central Aizawl into a vibrant, inclusive space — providing recreational areas for children, welcoming environments for youth, and comfortable spaces for the elderly. He urged citizens to support the project and called on implementing agencies to work with dedication.
The master plan includes major infrastructure upgrades such as a new road from Saron Veng to the Head Post Office, widening of existing city roads, and construction of a new power substation to meet rising demand. Aizawl Square will be developed as a central urban hub, while the Vanapa Hall Complex will be rebuilt with a seating capacity of 2,000, additional halls, an auditorium, and parking facilities.Other features include a large water reservoir at Baja Hill, new parks at Canteen Square and between Vanapa Hall and Baja Hill, an amphitheatre near the Post Office, scenic viewpoints, and multi-level parking structures to ease congestion.
Heritage Court itself will undergo beautification and redevelopment, with Rs 13 crore allocated for renovation and new construction. The programme was chaired by UD & PA secretary Lalmalsawma Pachuau, while director Jacob Lalawmpuia presented an overview of the project. Within a year of acquiring the land, the govt has moved swiftly to launch redevelopment efforts, signalling a fast-tracked push to make Aizawl’s heart modern, accessible, and people-friendly.
