A gang of four was arrested and 42.9 kg of ganja worth about ₹50 lakh was seized by the excise officials near Secunderabad Railway Station on Saturday (April 4).
The accused have been identified as 42-year-old Ganesh Shivnath Boduge, 33-year-old Parameshwar Damodar Balap, 32-year-old Vinny Shailesh Meshram, and 54-year-old Khan Sajavar Nawaz Khan, all residents of Maharashtra.
According to the officials, the accused procured ganja from the Tuni and Narsipatnam regions of Andhra Pradesh and transported it in four bags aboard the Konark Express. They were intercepted near the Senior Section Engineering Works office while waiting for a buyer from the Aurangabad region.
Upon inspection, 20 packets of ganja weighing 42.9 kg were found in their possession. Cash amounting to ₹72,500 was also seized.
During interrogation, the accused confessed to purchasing ganja at ₹4,000 per kilogram and selling it at rates ranging between ₹12,000 and ₹20,000 per kilogram to buyers in cities including Mumbai and Pune, routing consignments through Secunderabad.
The accused and seized property were handed over to the Secunderabad Excise Station for further investigation.
