Alejandro Davidovich Fokina lashed out at a section of the fans at the Australian Open on Wednesday after confronting the crowd during his intense five-set victory over Reilly Opelka.

The Spaniard confronted spectators in the front rows at Kia Arena when he was down 2-1 to American Opelka in the fourth set of their marathon encounter.

Davidovich Fokina marched over to address a section of the crowd, angrily pointing his finger before the chair umpire stepped down from his seat to speak to the spectators.

“It can happen here, it can happen anywhere in the world," said the 26-year-old.

“So, there were four ignorant drunks that I can do nothing about. Nothing more."

He was upset with some fans for cheering when he slipped and fell.

“I twisted my ankle and he won the point," he said calling back to the rally.

“And I think it’s not fair for me that they cheered that point because maybe I could have twisted it worse," the Spaniard added.

However, Davidovich Fokina had the last laugh with a 6-3, 7-6 (7/3), 5-7, 4-6, 6-4 victory and will will face another American, 19th seed Tommy Paul, in the third round.

Earlier in he day, Coco Gauff, Daniil Medvedev and Carlos Alcaraz all moved into the subsequent rounds with wins at the Rod Laver Arena.
