Four people were killed after a light aircraft crashed into a restaurant and caught fire in the southern Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Sul, The Metro reported.

Four people were killed after a light aircraft crashed into a restaurant and caught fire in the southern Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Sul, The Metro reported.
The pilot, along with three passengers, was killed in the incident, which occurred around 10:30 A.M. local time. Among the victims was a couple who were travelling on board the Piper Malibu aircraft, which had flown in from Sao Paulo.
The plane was approaching Capao da Canoa Airport when it reportedly struck a pole near the end of the runway before crashing into the restaurant.

Because the restaurant was closed at the time of the incident, no casualties were reported on the ground. However, videos captured pedestrians narrowly escaping injury as the plane abruptly rammed into the outlet.
Another video showed locals gathered at the spot as they appeared to be assessing the damage caused by the crash.

The restaurant was engulfed in flames, with dark plumes of smoke rising into the sky. According to The Metro, residents living near the crash site were rescued by Civil Defence teams after the incident.
Local officials confirmed that a nearby shop, which was also closed, sustained damage in the incident.
Rio Grande do Sul state governor Eduardo Leite affirmed he had been monitoring the situation from the very beginning, adding that all security forces had been fully mobilised.
