Four sentenced to life for gang rape, murder of 43-year-old woman

A Rajamahendravaram court on Monday sentenced four youths to life imprisonment for the gang rape and murder of a 43-year-old woman working at a flower nursery in Burrilanka, an incident that took place in 2024.

Addressing the press, East Godavari Superintendent of Police D. Narasimha Kishore said that the four convicted are Dasari Vasu, Velubadi Praveen, Dasari Suresh and 19-year-old Lokina Jayaprasad. All residents of Burrilanka village. The victim was also a native of the same village.

“On October 15, 2024, the victim was walking alone towards her home after attending work at the flower nursery in Burrilanka village in Kadiyam mandal. The four convicted, who had consumed alcohol at the same plant nursery, saw the victim, dragged her by tying a towel around her neck, gang-raped and killed her. Later, they disposed off her body in a nearby irrigation canal”, said Mr. Narasimha Kishore.

Two days after the crime, the victim’s body was found in an irrigation canal near the Choppella irrigation lock, nearly five kilometres away from where it had been thrown.

Based on a complaint by the victim’s husband police had registered a case and carried out investigations.
