Bhopal: Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) will open a fourth Animal Birth Control (ABC) centre at Bhanpur Khanti to boost the city’s stray dog sterilisation drive amid rising dog‑bite cases. The new 5,000 sq ft facility is estimated to cost about Rs 30 lakh and tenders have been issued. Officials said the centre could be ready by Jan 2027 if work proceeds on schedule. At present three NGO‑run centres — at Adampur Chhawani, behind Arvalia Gaushala and Kajlikheda (Kolar) — sterilise about 35–40 dogs a day, a capacity the corporation calls inadequate. The new centre is expected to ease pressure on health services. JP Hospital records show 150–160 people daily receive anti‑rabies injections after dog bites, many of whom are children, women and the elderly.BMC also plans a larger shelter home and has requested land in Kalapani for the project, but that proposal has been pending with the district administration for eight months.
