Frances Tiafoe is moving ahead with confidence at the 2026 Miami Open. The American player has already taken out defending champion Jakub Mensík in the Round of 32. Now, he is getting ready for his next match against France’s Terence Atmane on Tuesday.
This match will decide who moves closer to the quarter-finals, and it is expected to be a tough one.But just before this big match, Atmane grabbed attention for something off the court. The 24-year-old spoke about the record-breaking Pokémon card sale involving Logan Paul. The rare Pikachu Illustrator card was sold earlier this year for $16.5 million to collector Peter Petipas. Speaking to Tennis Channel, Atmane gave a very honest opinion, saying the buyer paid way more than the card’s real value.
Frances Tiafoe vs Terence Atmane: Miami Open clash builds as Atmane questions Logan Paul’s record card sale
Terence Atmane has been passionate about Pokémon cards for years. He started collecting them back in 2007, and even today, he still talks about them with excitement. So when he was asked about the famous sale, he did not hold back.“Overpaid by the buyer, that’s for sure. He bought it for 5.3 million in 2023, was already huge. The comparison between a PSA 9 and PSA 10 is usually two or three times the value, so I was hoping that in a PSA 9… I know a friend who bought it for 1.2 million.
So for me, it was never going to go above 4 million, so 5.3 was already big…. And sixteen and a half million… honestly, great job, because now it’s the most valuable Pokémon card of all time, the biggest sale ever in every single TCG.
It’s great that Logan Paul made history again, buying the most expensive and selling for the most,” Atmane said on Tennis Channel. While that debate continues off the court, his focus now shifts back to tennis.
Atmane is set to face Frances Tiafoe, who is currently ranked World No. 20. The two have already met once this year at the Dallas Open. Atmane started strong in that match and won the first set 6-4. But Tiafoe quickly turned things around and won the next two sets 6-2, 6-2.This time, Atmane comes in with better momentum. He has already beaten strong players like Arthur Rinderknech and Felix Auger-Aliassime in Miami. That shows he is not here just to compete, but to push for a deep run.Tiafoe will still go in as the favorite. He has more experience and has handled pressure matches before. But Atmane has already shown he can surprise big names. That makes this clash more interesting than it looks on paper.
