As part of the Equal Opportunity Plan at Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Open University, making education inclusive for all, Vice Chancellor Ghanta Chakrapani on Sunday said that the university will offer free degree courses to all transgender individuals in the State.

It is a first that a university is providing such opportunity to transgender persons, he stated.

Under the scheme, starting this academic year, any transgender person with a 10+2 or equivalent of Intermediate education can join a degree course. A registration fee of ₹500 is compulsory. However, all tuition fees are waived.

Additionally, the university will also provide course material and tools to access the various materials and platforms, free of cost.

Admissions can be had at any study centre of the university in the State where enrolled students can also physically attend the classes.

“We are moving with the aim of providing equal opportunity to study for all sections, and this university is already fulfilling its social responsibility by providing free education to prisoners, military personnel engaged in service at various stations,” Mr. Chakrapani stated.

The university earlier had also announced free higher education to tribal children, particularly Gond, Koya, Chenchu and other indigenous communities.

More details on the university’s admission plan can be had on its help desk 040-23680333, 23680555 and www.online.braou.ac.in
