Fresh Encounter Breaks Out In J&K’s Dolgam As Operation Trashi-I Enters Day 14

A fresh encounter erupted in the early hours of Saturday in the Dolgam area of Jammu and Kashmir after security forces re-established contact with terrorists, officials said. The development came as the ongoing anti-terror operation, code-named Operation Trashi-I, entered its 14th day.

According to a statement issued by the Army, the contact was re-established during a joint operation involving troops of the White Knight Corps, the Jammu and Kashmir Police and the Central Reserve Police Force.

“During the ongoing joint Operation TRASHI-I, contact with terrorists was re-established in the early hours of 31 Jan 2026, in the general area of Dolgam by troops of White Knight Corps, Jammu & Kashmir Police and and CRPF," the statement said.

Giving further but brief details, the Army added, “Intelligence from all sources had been coordinated to provide inputs to execute the operation on ground. A cordon has been established and operations are in progress."

The latest encounter comes just hours after security forces intensified a parallel anti-terror operation in the Chatroo area of Kishtwar district, targeting three Jaish terrorists. As part of the operation, internet services remained suspended in several areas to prevent the spread of rumours and to aid security efforts.

Mobile and internet connectivity was cut within a six-kilometre radius, affecting Singpura, Arigam, Dwathar and Naidgam. The shutdown, which had been in place since January 23, was extended until Friday night at 11.59 pm, as per an order issued by the Jammu and Kashmir home department.

Operation Trashi-I was launched on January 18 in a snow-covered region and has faced repeated challenges due to harsh weather and difficult terrain. Despite multiple contacts with terrorists, the militants have managed to evade capture by using dense forests, deep snow and the rugged landscape.

On the first day of the operation, one paratrooper lost his life and seven other soldiers were injured. Later encounters on January 22 at Mali Dana Top and on January 25 in the Janseer–Kandiwar area also ended without a breakthrough, as the terrorists slipped away under cover of thick vegetation and snow.

Security forces remain deployed in strength, and the operation is continuing as efforts intensify to neutralise the militants hiding in the region.
