The wife of former Sree Narayana Dharma Paripalana Yogam (SNDP) Yogam Kanichukulangara union secretary K.K. Maheshan on Sunday (July 5, 2026) met Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala at Haripad and submitted a petition seeking a fresh probe into her husband’s death.

Maheshan was found dead at the Yogam union office at Kanichukulangara in Alappuzha district in June 2020.

The police had registered a case naming Yogam general secretary Vellappally Natesan, his manager K.L. Asokan, and his son Thushar Vellappally as accused.

However, Maheshan’s wife, Usha, alleged that no further action had been taken in the case and that the investigation had not proceeded properly as Mr. Natesan and Mr. Vellappally were involved in it.

She met Mr. Chennithala at his office in Haripad and handed over the petition.

“We requested him to appoint a fresh investigation team and ensure a proper probe into the case,” Ms. Usha told reporters.

“We explained all the details of the case to him. He told us that the case is still alive and assured us that he would examine the matter and take necessary action,” she said.

Ms. Usha alleged that Mr. Natesan and Mr. Vellappally were making allegations against her late husband in the hope that the family would withdraw from the case.

“But we are not deterred by that. We will continue our fight until we get justice,” she said.

After the United Democratic Front (UDF) government assumed office, Ms. Usha had written to Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan seeking a fresh probe into the case.

Senior Congress leader V.M. Sudheeran had also written to the Chief Minister supporting the family’s demand for a fresh investigation.
