Arvind Kejriwal appears to have entered a new political phase. Months after AAP's defeat in the 2025 Delhi Assembly elections, the former Chief Minister has stepped up his public engagements, sharpened his messaging and begun targeting issues that resonate with the middle class and younger voters - from the NEET-UG paper leak to the Ram Mandir donation controversy and now E20 petrol.

His travel calendar across Delhi, Punjab and Goa has become increasingly active, while his messaging has grown more focused. Within the party, the renewed push is being seen as part of a broader strategy to rebuild AAP's political narrative before the 2027 elections.

A FOCUS ON MIDDLE-CLASS ISSUES

Kejriwal was among the first Opposition leaders to attack the Centre over the NEET-UG paper leak. Through press conferences, short social media videos and appeals to students, he sought to position himself alongside young aspirants demanding accountability over examination irregularities.

What initially appeared to be a one-off intervention soon evolved into a pattern. Over the following weeks, the AAP leadership consistently picked issues that generated public anger, particularly among urban and middle-class voters.

RAM MANDIR CONTROVERSY BECOMES A POLITICAL OPPORTUNITY

Although AAP has little electoral presence in Uttar Pradesh, Kejriwal entered the debate over alleged financial irregularities linked to Ram Mandir donations after the controversy gathered momentum.

After AAP MP Sanjay Singh repeatedly raised allegations, Kejriwal travelled to Ayodhya on June 26, offered prayers at the Ram Temple and launched a sharp attack on those accused of corruption and financial embezzlement.

Back in Delhi, he demanded the death penalty for those responsible and claimed the masterminds behind the alleged "chanda chori" were being protected. The sequence of Sanjay Singh submitting documents, Kejriwal's Ayodhya visit and the subsequent FIR helped AAP reinforce its political narrative around the issue.

E20 PETROL EMERGES AS THE NEXT CAMPAIGN

As concerns and misinformation surrounding ethanol-blended E20 petrol spread widely on social media, Kejriwal quickly shifted his attention to the issue.

By July 3, he had written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and launched a campaign seeking greater clarity on the impact of E20 fuel on vehicles designed for E10 petrol.

AAP has also written to 29 automobile manufacturers, including Toyota Kirloskar, Maruti Suzuki and Hero MotoCorp, asking them to explain how E20 fuel affects E10-compliant vehicles. The party is expected to make Kejriwal's letter to the Prime Minister public next week.

Kejriwal has also spoken about meeting vehicle owners and visiting service centres to understand public concerns over ethanol-blended fuel.

A BROADER POLITICAL STRATEGY

Party insiders say Kejriwal is personally monitoring the organisation's expansion plans in Goa and Gujarat while simultaneously strengthening AAP's position in Punjab.

In Delhi, his focus remains on issues that directly challenge the BJP-led Central government. In Punjab, he is concentrating on showcasing the Bhagwant Mann government's work, while in Goa organisational expansion has become a priority.

With Delhi, Punjab and Goa heading to Assembly elections in 2027, AAP sees these states as critical. Even in Uttar Pradesh, where the party has limited electoral strength, Kejriwal appears keen to exploit issues that could politically corner the BJP and benefit the wider Opposition.

A DIFFERENT KEJRIWAL

For those who have followed Kejriwal closely, the change has been visible. His public appearances have become more frequent, his communication style more energetic and his digital outreach more tailored to younger audiences, with Instagram-style videos and issue-based messaging.

He has even begun discussing future campaigns before launching them. When asked about the alleged medical procurement scam in Delhi, Kejriwal indicated he would take up the issue in the coming days.

His recent political calendar suggests a deliberate strategy — identifying emotionally charged public issues, intervening early and sustaining the conversation through repeated public engagement.
