Two youths were arrested in Trichy on Tuesday for assaulting a ganja dealer and robbing him of his moped after fleeing without paying for the contraband.
Trichy: Two youths were arrested in Trichy on Tuesday for assaulting a ganja dealer and robbing him of his moped after fleeing without paying for the contraband.Complainant K Thamaraiselvan, 47, of Ramji Nagar, who runs a mutton stall, was allegedly involved in selling ganja, police said.
Thamaraiselvan had gone to Pirattiyur around 4am on Tuesday to sell ganja when K Madhan Kumar, 26, and S Kalaivanan, 28, approached him on a bike and purchased some quantity of the contraband.
However, they allegedly sped away without paying, police said.Though Thamaraiselvan chased them on his moped and intercepted them near a fuel station, the duo assaulted him and fled with his vehicle. On Thamaraiselvan’s complaint with Sessions Court police, a case was registered under BNS for robbery. Subsequently, police traced and arrested Madhan Kumar and Kalaivanan and recovered the moped.
The accused were produced before a magistrate and remanded in judicial custody. Further investigation is underway.Meanwhile, in Thanjavur, police arrested two men near New Bus Stand for allegedly smuggling about 25kg of ganja. The accused, Girinathan and Dharmendran, were detained after police became suspicious of the travel bags they were carrying. A case was registered at Medical College police station and further investigation is underway.
