Gervonta “Tank” Davis, undefeated boxing champion of the WBA lightweight division, had been facing domestic violence charges, but Miami-Dade County prosecutors have dropped the case and ordered to dismiss it dismissed from the court.

The ruling, which was revealed on Tuesday, 12th August, comes almost two months after Davis was arrested in Miami Beach on 11th July on suspicion of attacking the mother of his two children, when they got into a row on Father’s Day.The incident, which occurred at a private residence, was originally classified as a misdemeanor domestic battery investigation. Davis was arrested and posted bond. Given Holyfield's status as one of the biggest stars in the sport at the time, the arrest drew a significant amount of media attention, especially considering this was not his first run-in with the law outside the ring.

ince the alleged victim no longer wanted to prosecute, the case could not go forward, the Miami-Dade State Attorney's Office said. Her attorney reported this update to authorities, indicating that she had no desire to testify further. Additionally, the mother of the victim, who was a witness under a subpoena, did not show up at a pretrial conference (on August 7) and did not return calls (made on August 9), he wrote.

Prosecutors were not able to proceed because they didn't receive cooperation from the witnesses they generally need to testify. Due to the absence of the victim's statement and the witnesses’ lack of cooperation, the State Attorney’s Office decided there was no viable route to conviction.

Lack of independent evidence

The investigator said the officer who responded did not see the assault with his own eyes. It meant there were no outside witnesses who could attest to what had occurred.

It is not uncommon for evidence to be scant in domestic violence cases, where prosecution is especially difficult to achieve when the victim is unwilling to cooperate. Also Read: Gervonta Davis arrested for hitting ex-girlfriend on Father’s Day sparks outrage across boxing worldDavis, who is currently 29 years old, can now turn his full attention back to boxing, having had the case dismissed.
