Get Cauvery water, not MLAs: Udhay to Vijay
Chennai: Leader of opposition Udhayanidhi Stalin on Thursday urged chief minister C Joseph Vijay to focus on securing Tamil Nadu’s share of Cauvery water from
Karnataka
instead of “buying MLAs”.Udhayanidhi remarked after Karnataka’s water resources minister Ramalinga Reddy said the upper riparian state ‘would not release Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu’.
Reddy has also said Tamil Nadu govt has not approached the state seeking water.“Instead of concentrating only on purchasing MLAs, the chief minister should focus on getting the Cauvery water that rightfully belongs to Tamil Nadu from Karnataka,” Udhayanidhi said in a post on X. Udhayanidhi said the Karnataka minister’s remarks had shocked Tamil Nadu’s farming community and questioned Vijay’s response to the statement.
Udhayanidhi said Karnataka didn’t release 9.91 tmc due for June and was refusing to release the 32 tmc quota for July.Recalling the demand to convene an all-party delegation from Tamil Nadu to present TN’s case on the Mekedatu project to the Union govt, Udhayanidhi stressed the need to speed up the process. He also accused the chief minister of misleading farmers in the name of farm loan waiver.
