Father of the Ghaziabad sisters who died by suicide/Their residential society complex
As investigations into the suicide of Ghaziabad minor sisters progress, sources told CNN-News18 that the father of the girls had two wives, both of whom are sisters, and that the entire family lived together in the same apartment complex where the tragedy unfolded.
According to the sources, Chetan Kumar, a trader by profession, had married for a second time after his first marriage initially did not result in children.
He later married his wife’s younger sister, following which three children were born from the second marriage.
During the same period, his first wife also had two children. Kumar, both his wives, and all five children were residing together in the ninth-floor flat in the Bharat City housing complex in the Sahibabad area.
Of the three sisters who had jumped from the building, one was from his first wife, and two were from his second wife, it was known.
GHAZIABAD MINOR SISTERS JUMP TO DEATH
The three sisters died after jumping from the balcony of their ninth-floor residence around 2.15 am on Wednesday, within the Teela Mor police station limits.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Atul Kumar Singh told reporters that police received information during the early hours that three girls had jumped from the balcony of a high-rise tower in Bharat City.
The minors were rushed by ambulance to a hospital in Loni, where doctors declared them dead on arrival.
Later, speaking to reporters, the father of the children said he had been informed by the forensic team that the influence of an online Korean task-based game, the final goal of which was allegedly suicide, was being probed.
Police officials, however, have so far denied establishing any such connection.
News agency PTI reported that the police said preliminary investigation suggested the sisters were addicted to a Korean task-based interactive “love game," and that their parents had objected to their excessive mobile phone usage in recent days.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Nimish Patil told PTI that the girls had been heavily influenced by Korean content and spent long hours on their phones.
“Family members had restricted their mobile phone usage for the past few days, which left them distressed and may have triggered the decision," he said.
However, police have stressed that the probe remains at an early stage and that no conclusive link to any Korean game has yet been officially established.
A DIARY, SUICIDE NOTE RECOVERED
Investigators recovered a diary from the girls’ belongings containing material related to the incident.
A note found inside reportedly read, “Read everything written in this diary, it is all here," along with a crying-face emoji and a handwritten apology that said, “Sorry papa, I am really sorry."
Some photographs strewn on the floor were also found as the room of the girls was opened.
Officials added that the sisters had become addicted to online gaming during the Covid-19 period and usually played the Korean game together.
“The three did everything together, from bathing, eating and sleeping to going to school," the police said.
It was also known that the girls’ education had been irregular and that they had not attended school for the past two years, after earlier performing poorly in academics.
Authorities have reiterated that the investigation is ongoing and that any conclusions regarding online influences will be drawn only after the probe is complete.
