As the investigations into the case of three minor sisters who allegedly jumped to death from a ninth-floor flat in Ghaziabad progress, reports have now pointed to a complex family structure involving three wives.

According to News18’s sister publication, News18 Hindi, the maternal grandfather of the girls has made startling assertions about the family’s past while speaking to reporters.

GHAZIABAD SISTERS’ DEATH: 3 WIVES, ONE LIVE-IN-PARTNER, MORE CLAIMS

The elderly man said he had a total of 14 children, out of which 11 were females, while three were males.

He said his eldest son, Deepu, had gone missing nearly 12 years ago, and nothing was yet known about him.

Sujata was the eldest among all sisters, and had been married off to Chetan around 17-18 years ago. Since Sujata could not conceive, one of the other sisters, Heena, was later married off to Chetan, he said.

Chetan and his two wives lived under the same roof, along with their children.

The maternal grandfather of the minor girls also spoke about another of his daughters, Aanchal, who he claimed had died after she slipped from the balcony of Chetan’s house, nearly six to seven years back.

The incident allegedly happened while Aanchal had come to Chetan’s house, in the Shalimar Garden area, to attend the birthday party of one of his daughters.

The elderly man said the family believed it to be a tragedy and never pressed for an investigation.

According to news agency PTI, Aanchal was Chetan’s live-in partner. However, the same was not confirmed yet.

Meanwhile, news agency PTI reported that the father of the three minor sisters who jumped to death had three wives.

Separately, a report with India Today claims that Chetan had met one Teena in 2018, while he worked in Ghaziabad for credit card services. The two later married each other, making Tina his third wife.

Chetan and Tina are also believed to have a three-year-old child.

However, during police interrogations, Chetan had introduced Tina as his sister-in-law, and not his third wife, the report claimed.

OTHER BIOLOGICAL SISTERS

Of the other nine sisters, seven have been married off, while two are yet to be married, the maternal grandfather of the Ghaziabad sisters said.

One of the two unmarried sisters, according to the elderly man, lives in Chetan’s house, while the other lives with him (the maternal grandfather).

Earlier, sources had told News18’s English platform that the father had two wives, both sisters, and that all family members were living together in the same apartment complex where the tragedy unfolded.

Chetan, a trader by profession, reportedly married a second time after his first marriage initially did not result in children, a fact confirmed later by his father-in-law.

Sources said three children were born from the second marriage, while the first wife later had two as well.

Both wives, all five children and Chetan were living in a ninth-floor flat in the Bharat City housing complex in Sahibabad.

Investigators were also quoted as saying that the three minor sisters who died were more attached to their father than to their mothers, which is why they addressed only him in the alleged suicide note.

PTI also quoted DCP (Trans Hindon) Nimish Patil as saying that forensic teams had seized mobile phones and sent fingerprints and handwritten notes for examination, with laboratory reports awaited.

Cyber crime units are also attempting to trace phones sold earlier through IMEI numbers in order to retrieve data linked to Korean apps that the girls were allegedly interested in.

Police have maintained that the case is being treated as suicide for now, while multiple aspects, including online gaming claims, family tensions and earlier deaths connected to the household, were being examined.

MATERNAL GRANDFATHER OF THE MINOR SISTERS SEEKS BAN ON ONLINE GAMES

Separately, the girls’ maternal grandfather appealed to the government to ban the Korean task-based game the sisters were allegedly addicted to.

“I fold my hands before the government and request that the game be banned, so that no more such deaths or suicides happen," he said.

Authorities have reiterated that investigations are ongoing and that conclusions will depend on forensic findings and further questioning of family members.

The three minor sisters, aged 16, 14, and 12, jumped to their deaths from the ninth floor of their residential tower in Bharat City Society under the Trans-Hindon police station jurisdiction earlier last week.
