A site of 86 acres in Ranga Reddy district has been approved for the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation to establish its solid waste management facility under the management by the concessionaire agency Hyderabad Integrated Municipal Solid Waste Management Limited (HiMSW).
On Thursday, orders were issued by the government for the facility to be set up as part of the ‘Eco Town’ project in Siddapur Village in Kothur Mandal of the district.
This measure may bring down the pressure on the existing solid waste management facility at Jawahar Nagar, which is located in the Malkajgiri Municipal Corporation limits, and is expected to moderate the pollution levels in the surrounding colonies and villages which have been fighting for shifting of the dump yard for very long.
The ‘Eco Town’ is being built in 150 acres of land at Siddapur village, under the Friendship and Co-operation Agreement between the Government of Telangana and the City of Kitakyushu, Fukuoka Prefecture, Japan, with the objective of promoting a circular economy and achieving Net Zero goals for the Future City.
The Telangana State Industrial Infrastructure Corporation, which owned the land, gave it up for GHMC free of cost for establishment of the town. Accordingly, advance possession was given to the civic body in February this year.
