The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation has decided to review the status of all the older flyovers and bridges across its purview, and take rehabilitation measures.
The civic body has called for Expression of Interest from agencies for engagement as consultant for carrying out a study on a total 24 old flyovers and road bridges across its jurisdiction, and recommending rehabilitation measures.
The structures listed in the EoI document include flyovers at Paradise, Patny-Parade Grounds, Begumpet Airport, Tarnaka, Narayanguda, Basheerbagh, Masabtank, Telugu Thalli Junction, Langar Houz, Punjagutta, Khairatabad, Lakdikapul, and Chandrayangutta and the Roads-under-Bridges at Chowni, Uppuguda, Lalitha Bagh, Talab Katta, Rein Bazar, Yakutpura, Azampura, Malakpet, besides the Road-over-Bridge at Dabeerpura, the Purana Pul and Naya Pul on Musi river.
The flyovers among these are 20-40 years old, some of them with gaps exposed between the spans and giving a bumpy ride to the commuters. Purana Pul is 450-years-old historic structure, built during the reign of Qutb Shahi dynasty. Naya Pul is over 160 years old, built during Asafjahi dynasty. RoBs and RuBs in the Old City are in a severely dilapidated condition.
The consultant is required to conduct Ultrasonic Pulse Velocity test and Rebound Hammer test both non-destructive tests to check the concrete strength, prepare a General Assembly drawing outlining overall layout, position, and relationship of components within the structures, and submit suggestive restoration scheme including material specifications. The agency should also submit detailed estimation for restoration of the bridges, officials informed.
