Giorgio Armani, the Milanese maestro who redefined modern fashion with his unstructured tailoring and elegant ready-to-wear, has died at the age of 91. Giorgio Armani passed away at his home, his fashion house confirmed.

The designer had been absent from his June runway shows while recovering from an undisclosed illness. He had been preparing a major celebration to mark the 50th anniversary of his eponymous label during Milan Fashion Week later this month.
