Mumbai: India’s Gem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) is set to join the Natural Diamond Council (NDC). After agreeing on the details of its financial contribution, it is set to become an NDC member by May 1, 2026.

The GJEPC, which represents around 7,000 exporters, signed the Luanda Accord last June with diamond producers Angola, Botswana, South Africa, Namibia and the United States. They jointly pledged to donate 1 per cent of gross revenue to fund the global NDC campaign for the natural diamond market.

The GJEPC and the NDC announced on February 9 that they have signed the MoU during the African Mining Indaba 2026 being held in Cape Town, South Africa.

GJEPC Vice Chairman Shaunak Parikh said: ‘Joining the Natural Diamond Council reflects our belief that the future of natural diamonds is based on collaboration, transparency and a shared commitment to building long-term consumer trust.’

Amber Pepper, the new CEO of the NDC, said: ‘GJEPC has long been a valued partner of the Natural Diamond Council. Their move towards membership deepens that partnership and strengthens our ability to reach the next generation of consumers with clear, compelling information about what makes natural diamonds rare, authentic and meaningful.’

At the same event, the Dubai Multi Commodities Centre (DMCC) also signed a letter of intent for NDC membership by 1 May, and Namibia formally joined the Luanda Accord.
