Mumbai: Pharma major Glenmark Pharmaceuticals, through its wholly owned subsidiary Glenmark Speciality SA, has received the approval of the Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) to initiate patient enrollment for the Phase 3 clinical trials for Trastuzumab rezetecan a drug aimed to treat Platinum-Resistant Ovarian Cancer.

The drug, being developed by China-based Jiangsu Hengrui Pharmaceuticals Co., Ltd aims to treat the disease where treatment options are currently limited, with existing diagnoses remaining inefficient. Ovarian cancer remains the third most prevalent cancer in India, with about 15-20% of the cases involving platinum resistance, according to a report published in the Journal of Clinical Oncology.

By conducting a part of the trial in India, Glenmark hopes to strengthen the clinical data required to check its efficacy, with additional Phase 3 trials to be conducted in Australia and South Korea as well, subject to regulatory approval.

“Advancing this pivotal Phase 3 trial marks an important step in Glenmark’s journey to build a differentiated oncology pipeline for global markets. Platinum-resistant ovarian cancer remains an area of significant unmet need, and the initiation of patient enrollment in India, with additional countries planned, reflects our commitment to developing novel targeted therapies for patients with hard-to-treat cancers and limited treatment options. This study also strengthens our ability to generate clinically relevant evidence across diverse populations.” Dr. Monika Tandon, Global Head of Clinical Development, Glenmark Pharmaceuticals Limited, said in a press release.
