Lucknow: The state cabinet on Monday approved the allotment of land for two 100-bed Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) hospitals in Gorakhpur and Moradabad and an ESIC Medical College in Varanasi.Labour and employment minister Anil Rajbhar said that the proposed projects were expected to improve healthcare access for around 1.45 lakh ESI-insured workers and nearly 5.5 lakh family members in Varanasi and adjoining districts, while also generating employment for doctors, nurses, paramedics and other staff.The state govt will provide land for all three projects to the Centre either free of cost or at concessional rates.In Moradabad, over two hectares of state govt land at Harthala village will be allotted free of cost for the proposed 100-bed hospital.According to the govt, the facility is expected to serve nearly 93,600 insured workers and around 3.56 lakh dependants. The hospital will be built and operated by the ESIC, ensuring there is no additional financial burden on the state exchequer.The cabinet also approved concessional allotment of about 21,427 square metre of land in the Gorakhpur Industrial Development Authority (GIDA) area for another 100-bed ESIC hospital.
In Varanasi, nearly 13 acres of land has been provided in Pindra area to build the ESIC Medical College. Likely to come up at an estimated cost of Rs 800 crore, this medical college will reserve 50% of MBBS seats for children of insured workers.
