Goaltender Carter Hart confirms not signing with the Philadelphia Flyers

The Philadelphia Flyers' goaltender, Carter Hart, has recently confirmed that he won’t be signing and returning to the team this year, following his recent acquittal of sexual assault charges.

General Manager Daniel Briere announced on Tuesday, stating that Hart and his agent, Judd Moldaver, have informed the team that they wish for a fresh start elsewhere. Actually, the Flyers’ second-round draft pick from 2016 was recently acquitted of sexual assault charges stemming from an incident during the 2018 World Juniors while playing for Team Canada. He is one of the five players who were charged in connection with a 2018 incident involving Hockey Canada’s World Junior team, who were acquitted on July 24, 2025.

Philadelphia Flyers General Manager Danny Briere has confirmed that goaltender Carter Hart will not be rejoining the team. While addressing the press conference on Tuesday about informing about it, Briere said, "The only comment I'll make on that is that his representative, Judd Moldaver, has reached out and kind of told us in light of everything that happened in the last year and a half with Carter, they felt and Carter felt that it was better for them to look for a fresh start," He further said, "That's where it's at, and it's the only comment I'm going to make on it.

Meanwhile, the NHL stated that Hart and four other players were suspended last week after they were acquitted in July of sexual assault charges from an incident in 2018 when they were on Canada's world junior team. According to reports, the five players were found not guilty by a judge in London, Ontario, on July 24. It has also come to light that Hart, Michael McLeod, Dillon Dube, Cal Foote, and Alex Formenton are eligible to sign a contract on October 15 and play on December 1.Hart finished his campaign with the Flyers with an overall record of 96-93-29 with a 2.94 goals-against average, a .906 save percentage, and six shutouts throughout his six-year career with the team.
