The fight against administrative malpractice in Karnataka reached a fever pitch Thursday morning as Lokayukta officials launched a massive, synchronized operation across multiple districts. In a series of dawn raids, investigative teams targeted the residences and offices of several high-ranking government officials suspected of accumulating disproportionate assets.
The sweep, which spanned Bengaluru, Mysuru, Mandya, Hassan, and Vijayapura, has already resulted in the seizure of significant physical evidence and incriminating financial documents, signalling a rigorous phase of accountability for state employees.
The Mysuru Haul: Kilos of Gold at Jala Bhavan
The most striking discovery of the day occurred in Mysuru, where investigators focused their attention on Asif Iqbal, an official serving as both the Assistant Executive Engineer (AEE) and Executive Engineer (EE) at Jala Bhavan.
Acting on specific corruption complaints, the Lokayukta team conducted simultaneous searches of his workplace and private residence.
The sheer volume of wealth uncovered at the residence left onlookers and officials alike stunned. Search teams recovered approximately 2.2 kilograms of gold along with a substantial amount of liquid cash.
The recovery of such a massive quantity of bullion, valued in the millions highlights the scale of the alleged financial irregularities. Investigators spent hours documenting the haul and verifying property deeds before seizing the assets and official records for further forensic analysis.
Real Estate and Relatives: The Bengaluru Probe
Simultaneously, in Bengaluru, the spotlight turned toward the academic sector. Lokayukta teams raided the home of Indresh, an Assistant Professor at the local Veterinary College, following allegations of systemic corruption. The investigation quickly expanded beyond his primary residence to include the homes of several relatives.
The search unearthed a sprawling portfolio of real estate investments, with documents linking Indresh to various properties across Channapatna, Ramanagara, and Bidadi. In addition to the land records, officials discovered a cache of jewellery and cash stashed within the premises.
This multi-location search suggests a calculated effort to distribute and hide assets through family networks, a theory that the Lokayukta is now actively pursuing through a detailed paper trail.
Standoff in Hassan: A Three-Hour Delay
Perhaps the most dramatic episode of the morning unfolded in Hassan at the residence of City Municipal Engineer Satyanarayan. When the Lokayukta team arrived to execute the search warrant, they were met with a surprising obstacle: a locked door.
Despite the clear presence of the official’s wife and son inside the house, the family refused to grant entry, leading to a tense standoff that lasted for three hours.
The situation became serious enough to require the personal intervention of Lokayukta Superintendent of Police (SP) Nandini, who arrived at the spot to oversee the operation. After the prolonged delay, the family finally relented and opened the doors.
While the delay provided a window for potential tampering, investigators immediately began a thorough sweep of the house, focusing on hidden compartments and financial logs to determine what the family was so desperate to shield from public view.
As the day progressed, the Lokayukta continued to tally the total value of seized assets, promising a comprehensive report on the extent of the rot within these public departments.
