US President Donald Trump lavished praise on Prime Minister Narendra Modi during their meeting on the sidelines of the G7 Summit in France, describing the Indian leader as a “good looking guy", a “tough negotiator" and a “total killer" in politics.
The remarks came as Trump and Modi met face-to-face for the first time in 16 months, holding discussions on trade, defence cooperation and regional security.
‘We Had A Great Visit In Namaste Trump’
During the interaction, Trump fondly recalled the “Namaste Trump" event held in Ahmedabad in February 2020, one of the most high-profile public engagements between the two leaders.
“We had a great visit in Namaste Trump," Trump said, referring to the massive reception he received during his visit to India.
The event, attended by tens of thousands of people at the Narendra Modi Stadium, was widely seen as a landmark moment in India-US relations.
Trump Praises Modi’s Leadership Style
Trump also highlighted what he described as Modi’s negotiating skills and political instincts.
Calling the Prime Minister a “tough negotiator," Trump suggested that Modi’s calm public demeanour often masks a highly effective political and diplomatic style.
The US President has previously described Modi as “calm", “cool" and a “total killer" — phrases he has used to portray the Indian leader as a formidable negotiator and political strategist.
Trump also offered personal praise, calling Modi a “good looking guy" while speaking about their long-standing relationship.
India Visit On The Horizon?
In a significant remark, Trump hinted that he could visit India in the near future.
“We will have a visit to India very soon," he said, raising the possibility of another high-profile meeting between the two leaders.
While no official timeline has been announced, the comment is likely to fuel speculation about a future bilateral visit as both countries continue discussions on trade, defence cooperation and strategic issues.
Focus On Bilateral Ties
The Modi-Trump meeting took place against the backdrop of ongoing efforts to deepen India-US ties, with both leaders expected to discuss trade negotiations, energy cooperation and developments in West Asia.
The interaction also underscored the strong personal chemistry that has often characterised relations between the two leaders and played a role in shaping the broader India-US partnership.
As the G7 Summit continues, Trump’s remarks are likely to attract attention both in India and abroad, highlighting the significance Washington attaches to its relationship with New Delhi.
