The 17th edition of the International Documentary and Short Film Festival of Kerala (IDSFFK), organised by the Kerala State Chalachitra Academy, opened at the Kairali theatre complex here on Friday. The inaugural ceremony was reduced to an informal gathering to pay respects to Peerumade MLA Vazhoor Soman, who passed away on Thursday. The festival began with a moment of silence for the MLA as well as for film personalities who passed away recently including filmmakers Shaji N. Karun and Nizar, actors Kalabhaban Navas, Shanavas and documentary filmmaker R.S. Pradeep.
The festival book was released by Rajan N. Khobragade, Additional Chief Secretary (Culture department) by handing over a copy to Divya S. Iyer, Director, Culture Department. Kerala State Film Development Corporation (KSFDC) chairperson K. Madhu released the festival daily bulletin by handing over a copy to fiction jury member and actor Rajshri Deshpande.
Fee and registration
Following the ceremony, the opening film From Ground Zero, a collective work by 22 Palestinian filmmakers capturing the untold stories of the ongoing genocide in Gaza, was screened. The films screened under the International Fiction and Non-Fiction categories on the first day were well-received by the audience. Over the course of the six-day festival, 331 films from 52 countries will be screened across 29 categories.
Delegate fee is fixed at ₹590 for the general category and ₹354 for students. Registration can be done online at registration.iffk.in or directly at the delegate cell operating at the Kairali theatre complex.
