New Delhi: Recently, Google Pixel Watch 5 has received FCC certification in the United States, confirming some next-generation connectivity features. Four model numbers have appeared in the filing, which are:
- G25QD
- G1XJ6
- G0F3Y
- GFW3R
These are expected to represent:
- 41mm Bluetooth/LTE
- 41mm LTE variant
- 45mm Bluetooth/LTE
- 45mm LTE variant
All certified models will be going to appear, and it also includes cellular hardware, indicating that Google might drop the Wi-Fi-only version, although it is also possible those variants haven’t appeared in regulatory databases yet. The FCC documents reveal support for LTE, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi 6, NFC, Ultra-Wideband, and satellite connectivity through NTN bands. The inclusion of NTN bands strongly suggested satellite communications support.
FCC filings don’t explicitly describe how the satellite connectivity will work, but industry observers believe it will primarily power Emergency SOS when users are outside cellular coverage. Google already unveiled a satellite emergency feature on its recent Pixel device, and wearable integration appears to be a logical next step.
Apple and Samsung already use Ultra-Wideband extensively in their smartwatches, so this brings Google’s wearable closer to its competitors. Another notable update is Wi-Fi 6 support for faster downloads, lower latency, improved efficiency, and reduced battery consumption while connected. This replaces the older Wi-Fi implementation, which was used on previous Pixel Watches.
