New Delhi: Google might be preparing its latest feature for its Gemini application that enables users to import memory and chat history from other AI platforms. This upcoming feature, which has been spotted in the APK teardown of the Google Gemini application, is currently not available to users, and there is no confirmation yet on wider rollout.

The discovery was made in application version 17.22.54.sa.arm64, where such in-development features are often tested before being introduced publicly.

This feature is working in two parts. The first step involves generating a prompt in another AI chatbot to extract stored information such as user preferences, names, and other contextual details. This output can then be pasted into the Gemini, enabling it to build a basic understanding of the users without starting from scratch.

The process relies on transferring data indirectly; some information might not be carried over accurately.

Whereas the second part of the feature aims to import past conversations. The users can upload chat history files in .zip format, with a size limit of up to 5GB. Once it is uploaded, Gemini could use this data to recreate context and enable the users to continue previous interactions more seamlessly.

This feature is still not live within the Gemini application, but if rolled out, it could support data transfers from platforms like ChatGPT, Claude, and Perplexity. This would make it easier for the users to switch between AI tools while retaining their activity and context.
