New Delhi: Google has officially introduced its latest Veo 3.1 Lite, the latest video generation model, which it states is its most cost-effective offering yet. The model is now available through the paid tier of the Gemini API and Google AI Studio and is focused on developers by building high-volume video applications.
Veo 3.1 Lite costs less than half of the Veo 3.1 Fast while maintaining the same speed, as part of its broader push to make video generation more accessible for users.
This development follows on the heels of OpenAI announcing that it is shutting down its video generation application, Sora. They do not provide any explanation as to why they are discontinuing the applications. Veo 3.1 Lite also supports both text-to-video and image-to-video generation, by enabling the developers to create videos by using different input formats.
The model also offers flexibility in output, with support for landscape and portrait aspect ratios alongside 720p and 1080p resolution.
Developers can customize video duration by choosing between around 4-second, 6-second, or 8-second clips, with the pricing adjusted which based on the selected length. Google has also stated that this approach is intended to balance cost and usability for the different use cases.
The latest model has started rolling out and can be accessed via Google’s developer platforms. Along with the introduction, Google stated it will also reduce the pricing of the Veo 3.1 Fast from starting April 7, which could enable more developers to integrate video generation into their products.
