Gujarat has launched 11 courses from fields like AI to EVs
Gandhinagar: In a bid to align technical education with emerging industrial trends and future job markets, the state govt has introduced 11 new courses in industrial training institutes (ITIs) and increased the number of seats in such institutes by 3,312.The govt said on Sunday that courses introduced in self-financed, grant-in-aid and govt ITIs include artificial intelligence (AI) programming assistant, drone pilot, solar technician (electrical), IT, mechanic-electric vehicle, advanced CNC machining, additive manufacturing technician (3D printing), technician-mechatronics, computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) programmer, IoT technician (smart agriculture), IoT technician (smart city), and smartphone technician-cum-app tester.State labour, skill development and employment minister Kunvarji Bavaliya said, “These courses have been introduced to create skilled workforce for rapidly growing sectors such as renewable energy, electric mobility, automation, smart manufacturing, AI, and digital technology.” He added that the main aim of launching these new-age courses in the state’s ITIs is to align the training system with changing industrial needs.
Minister of state for labour, Kantilal Amrutiya added that these courses will create several employment opportunities for youths in rapidly growing new-age industries in the state.The govt said that additionally, 3,312 new seats have also been added to the ITI network. An official statement said that courses for mechanic (electric vehicle) and solar technician (electrical) have been launched across almost all ITIs while other specialised courses have been introduced in select ITIs.The statement said that in the coming years, a number of employment opportunities will arise in the renewable energy and electric vehicle sectors, with Gujarat emerging as a leading state with a 16.5% share of the country’s total RE capacity. As of Dec 2025, the state’s installed renewable energy capacity reached 42.583 gigawatts. According to official data, Gujarat ranks first nationwide in total installed renewable energy capacity and wind energy production, while it ranks second in solar energy capacity.Currently, there are 288 govt ITIs in Gujarat, with 1,77,912 seats available. Additionally, there are 100 grant-in-aid ITIs with 16,200 seats and 171 self-financed ITIs with 24,624 seats available.
