A 7.8 magnitude earthquake in the Philippines killed at least 32 and injured over 200, viral CCTV shows a grandmother shielding her grandson as authorities assess damage.

A powerful 7.8 magnitude earthquake had struck Philippines on Monday, killing at least 32 people and injuring over 200. Following the quake, several videos have emerged showing widespread destruction and people’s reaction to the shocks.
One video, in particular, has gained most shares – a grandmother was seen running to shield her grandson with her own body.
In the CCTV footage, the child could be seen seated on the sofa when sudden tremors shook the house violently. It was at the time, his grandmother acted swiftly. She could be seen running into the house, picking up her grandson, and trying to escape the house. However, the jolt restricted her, making her shield her grandson.

In one of the posts on X, @YourAnonNews said: “Magnitude 7.8 earthquake in the Philippines today. CCTV footage of a grandmother trying to protect her grandchild during the earthquake. This happened 4-6 hours ago."
In response to the post, one of the users said: “Superhero grandma didn’t hesitate for a second. That’s what family looks like."
“Grandma is a true hero!! In the midst of a terrifying 7.8 magnitude earthquake, she immediately protected her grandson without a second thought. This is proof that family love is stronger than any earthquake. Hopefully, grandma and her grandson are safe, and that all victims in the Philippines receive immediate assistance. Much respect for this grandma," another user said.
Authorities in the Philippines are assessing the impact of the earthquake, including damage to buildings, infrastructure and public utilities. Emergency teams have been deployed to affected areas, while officials continue to monitor the possibility of aftershocks.
The Philippines lies along the Pacific Ring of Fire, one of the world’s most seismically active regions, and frequently experiences powerful earthquakes due to the movement of tectonic plates beneath the archipelago.
