‘Gudi Padwa is all about culture, traditions and a new start’

For Priya Bapat, Gudi Padwa is a day to celebrate the essence of culture and togetherness. “Irrespective of whether I am working or not, I love waking up early on Gudi Padwa, preparing to hoist the Gudi and doing puja before starting the day’s routine.

For me it’s not just the beginning of the New Year but also a time to unite and celebrate our culture,” said Priya Bapat who was in town recently for Tanishq event. While on other days, the actress may rock a variety of outfits, on Gudi Padwa, a traditional sari is her go-to outfit.

“I make sure to dress up like a newly married woman on this day to celebrate the beginning of the New Year in an auspicious way. Festivals are when I will go all out with my traditional outfits,” says the Raat Jawaan Hai actress.

Priya says that she loves celebrating all festivals with equal zest. “I have grown up watching my parents celebrate every festival in the most authentic way. For Gudi Padwa, they would wake up early and start preparing. It’s perhaps why I do the same,” she smiles, adding, “We would have basundi and poori on the lunch menu, two dishes that feature on my Gudi Padwa menu till date. These are the days when you lean on what your elders would do and carry those practices forward.
