From Tejas To INS Vikrant: A Look At India’s Defence Journey

The post shared by MyGovIndia on ‘X reflected India’s defence journey over the past 12 years, specifically highlighting the indigenous technology that has significantly boosted its military arsenal.

  1. Tejas Aircraft: One of the heroes of ‘Operation Sindoor’, it was developed by the Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL). “With the induction of Tejas Mk-1A and the development of Mk-2, India is strengthening a robust indigenous combat aviation ecosystem", the post read.
  2. Akash missile system: Developed by the DRDO, the next-generation Akash “enhances performance with faster reaction times, improved target tracking, and stronger interception capability."
  3. Agni-V: Developed by the DRDO, Agni-V is an advanced, nuclear-capable intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM). This achievement places “India among a select group of nations with this advanced capability, strengthening India’s strategic deterrence."
  4. INS Vikrant: India’s first indigenous aircraft carrier, INS Vikrant “serves as a floating airbase and a symbol of technological achievement."

What Rajnath Singh Said

Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said Wednesday that India’s defence production has been growing steadily under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi.

“India’s annual defence production has surged to an all-time high of Rs 1.78 lakh crore in the Financial Year (FY) 2025-26," he wrote in a post on ‘X’.

He also highlighted the long-term growth in the country’s defence sector, noting that production has risen by 110 per cent since FY2020-21, when it stood at Rs 84,643 crore.

Under the inspiring leadership of PM Shri @narendramodi, India’s defence production is reaching new heights every year. I am delighted to inform everyone that India’s annual defence production has surged to an all-time high of Rs 1.78 lakh crore in the Financial Year (FY)…— Rajnath Singh (@rajnathsingh) June 17, 2026

“Indigenous defence production has increased nearly fourfold from Rs 43,746 crore in FY 2013–14. The remarkable rise in India’s defence production in recent years is the result of the collective efforts of the Department of Defence Production and all other stakeholders. This upward trajectory is a clear indicator of the country’s expanding defence industrial base," the minister wrote.
