India's Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has responded to Donald Trump's statement on the India-Russia oil deal. The MEA noted that India and the USA share a comprehensive global strategic partnership that has weathered challenges and will continue to move forward. However, it also clarified India's position on its energy procurement. The MEA stated, "In securing our energy needs, we are guided by what is on offer in the markets and by the prevailing global circumstances." India has increased its oil imports from Russia to 45% of its total, benefiting from a discounted pricing mechanism. The government is currently in a wait-and-watch mode, calibrating its next move pending the fine print of US tariffs and potential penalties, and has not chosen a side between the US and Russia.
