VADODARA: At least 33 of the passengers on board the ill-fated Air India flight 171 that crashed in Ahmedabad on Thursday afternoon were from Gujarat's Anand district.Anand has a large population of NRIs settled across the globe.
The list of deceased passengers from the district included Indian and British citizens.District collector Praveen Chaudhary said the administration had so far been able to reconcile the list of 33 deceased persons it had prepared. There could be additions to the list if any other UK citizen killed in the plane crash was found to be a native of Anand, he added.Patel said there were some persons on the list who did not have relatives in Anand.
"We are trying to coordinate with their relatives, too," he said.The deceased included Badruddin Halani of a prominent business family from Anand, his wife Yasmin and sister-in-law Malek. Parth Sharma from Tarapur taluk was going to the United Kingdom for his studies, while Salma Razzak Vohra from Umreth was going to London to stay with her pregnant daughter were among the passengers killed. Dushyant Patel from Chikhodara had settled in London and came to take his mother Nita Patel with him. Bhavna Rana from Karamsad, accompanied by her sister Anandi Rana, was visiting her son and daughter in London.
